Moonletter April 2022
By Ben Belinsky
Welcome to the Moonletter for the forthcoming mooncycle beginning on 1 April 2022 with the new moon in Aries, and spanning the full moon in Libra on 16th April 2022.
New Moon in Aries – 1 April
Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, the pioneer. While Pieces is complex and subtle, Aries is straightforward and direct. At the new moon, the sun and moon are sandwiched between Mercury the communicator, and Chiron, the wounded healer. Mercury in Aries says it like it is. Likes to argue, to challenge. And as soon as the confrontation is over, there’s no emotional residue of resentment or grudge. When Chiron works with Mercury, the words can either wound or heal, or by wounding heal. Aries has a strong sense of identity. The statement is ‘I am’. And with Chiron in Aries, by making this statement, by saying who I am, the wound closes and I am whole.
With the new moon backed by Chiron and Mercury, there also a quality of childlike candour. Words are spoken with no thought for diplomacy or politeness the way a child will speak a truth that cuts through the BS with no regard for the hurt or embarrassment they may cause.
There’s also the interesting symbolism of April 1st, April Fool’s day. Some may call Aries naïve and guileless. But those who know the tarot deck know that the Fool as the zero card of the deck is a holy figure. He has a zen-like quality, totally in the moment, with neither memory nor foresight.
The other main pattern at the time of the new moon is Saturn at the midpoint of Venus and Mars. The two planets of sexual attraction have been up-close and personal in a conjunction for the whole of February and March. Now they have met the reality check of Saturn. This could be to the tune of ‘Just one of those things’, or it could be a test to find out if this is real or not. Is this relationship a big hit in the karmic charts or is this something that fades as soon as it meets a bump in the road? This applies not only to affairs of the heart but also to creative projects.
Then there’s the conjunction of Jupiter and Neptune which is exact on April 12th. These planets are conjunct every 12 years. The last time they were conjunct in Pisces was 1856. Back then, Neptune had only recently been discovered (1846) and a gate was flung open to psychic realms. This was the birth of spiritualism, access to the invisible worlds, worlds beyond the physical.
On its discovery, Neptune was considered the modern ruler of Pisces while Jupiter as the traditional ruler was not ousted but stayed on as co-ruler. Jupiter amplifies the ‘signal’ of any planet it comes into contact with, and the boundless compassion of Neptune is more and more in evidence in these difficult times reminding us of the oneness of humanity. We are being asked not only to recognise the suffering of refugees but also to acknowledge the dictator and the warmonger within ourselves.
As Austrian physicist Erwin Schrödinger said, “The total number of minds in the universe is one. In fact, consciousness is a singularity phasing within all beings.”
Full Moon in Libra – 16th April
The influence of the Jupiter-Neptune conjunction continues at the full moon in Libra and will in fact go on till mid May when Jupiter moves on into Aries. For however trapped we feel, Neptune as the power of the imagination, grants the ability to envisage other possibilities, other solutions, other ways of living.
Then, apart from the moon in Libra balancing out the dynamic energy of the sun in Aries, we’re looking at a coming shift in the world of finance, both personal and global. The sign to watch is Taurus, traditionally associated with the fertility of the earth. Taurus is also the sign of the store of value, and as a fixed sign is looking for long term investments rather than short term speculation. The whole point of a long term investment is that it should keep its value. The expectation is that currencies should be stable, assets like gold and real-estate should be safe havens in times of turmoil.
However, with Uranus the disruptor in Taurus heading for a conjunction with the moon’s north node in July, we’re looking at a shift in values signalling major unpredictability in the financial markets which will of course impact our personal finances. Inflation anyone? Interest rates? Uranus tends to flip things over, to reverse the trends so beloved of Saturn. What seemed safe before will now be risky and vice versa. There will of course be winners as well as losers and at the full moon with Mercury closing in on a conjunction with Uranus, we should be able to see the new patten emerging.
But whatever the global financial situation, the Jupiter-Neptune conjunction in easy aspect to the moon in Libra, emphasises the emergence of the sharing economy and a rebalancing with the natural world.
Go well and stay well
