Moonletter February 2020
By Ben Belinsky
Welcome to the Moonletter for the forthcoming mooncycle beginning on January 24th 2020 with the new moon in Aquarius, and spanning the full moon in Leo on February 9th, 2020.
New Moon in Aquarius – 24 January – Chinese New Year
The year of the Metal Rat starts with this New Moon in Aquarius. Traditionally the days before the Lunar New Year are spent cleaning and decluttering to make space for the new. Also, according to the tradition, it’s important not to do any sweeping in the days after the New Year as you may sweep out the good luck that you are due.
The Rat is an opportunistic animal, but can you be sure that the opportunities are beneficial? Whether this will be a ‘good year’ for you or not depends on your own Chinese animal. More on this coming soon…
Back to western astrology, the chart for the coming mooncycle and for the whole lunar year has Saturn still conjunct Pluto but slowing pulling away from the conjunction. The consequences of the events around the Full Moon of January 10th (Iran… British Royal Family…) will pan out through the year, as Jupiter (also in Capricorn) moves across Pluto on 5th April, 30th June and 12th November. Jupiter brings understanding, showing us the big picture. When it conjuncts Pluto there is a deep learning process. And isn’t that what the world is going through?
Please bear in mind that a major astrological event like the Saturn-Pluto conjunct in Capricorn isn’t just the matter of a switch being thrown. This stuff happens at a very deep level. Then it can take years for the consequences, ramifications and ripples to eddy out, transforming societies and cultures. When you’re in the middle of it, as we are now, it’s virtually impossible to gauge the extent of the transformations. We shall see, is all I can say.
Then on 20th February, 27th July and 12th October, Jupiter in Capricorn makes an easy sextile with Neptune in Pisces, giving Neptune a clear channel to broadcast its message of the oneness of humanity to those who are open to hear it, (or an escape into fantasy to those who are unwilling or unable to listen).
Jupiter finally catches up with Saturn in the first degree of Aquarius on 21st December, the beginning of a new economic cycle. See the articles on the Aquarian Economic Paradigm and Predicting the Paradigm Shift for more detail on this.
The chart of the new moon also has a square between Mars and Venus – Venus being backed up by Neptune. Gender issues continue to be worked out during this year. What it means to be female or male and the image of woman or man are being processed, challenged and redefined.
Full Moon in Leo – 9 February
Gender issues are still highlighted at the full moon. With Venus conjunct the centaur Chiron there is the chance to heal old wounds between the sexes socially and culturally as well as in our own lives. The conjunction is in the impulsive sign of Aries, traditionally Mars’ domain and not a sign renowned for its diplomacy. Unless checked, this could lead to confrontation. But message is clear – the values traditionally ascribed to women have an important place in dealing with environmental challenges and are a vital part of the ongoing cultural healing process.
The full moon is also a time for new voices to be heard. Many of the old ways of understanding and looking at the world are past their sell-by date. Even with all our communications technology it’s difficult for new ideas to get out there. But nothing will happen by itself. Like all radical transformations it just needs a creative push to bring it into the light of day.
And remember that whatever is going on in the world, you can always create peace in yourself, peace in your relationships and peace in your life.
Shanti, shanti, shanti.
