Moonletter July 2024

By Ben Belinsky

Welcome to the Moonletter for the forthcoming mooncycle beginning on 5 July with the new moon in Cancer and spanning the full moon in Capricorn on 21 July 2024.

New Moon in Cancer – 5 July

The chart of the new moon in Cancer puts the focus on family and home. These areas are receiving pretty positive influences most notably from Saturn in Pisces. When it comes in as a positive influence, Saturn gives strength, duration and solidity. When it’s negative it is experienced as pressure and added responsibility. Here the influence is pretty positive, not only on the sun and moon, but also on Venus, the planet of harmony.

And Saturn in Pisces is asking us to check who we truly consider our family. What do we mean when we say ‘we’? Is it just our immediate family? Our wider family? Does it include our neighbourhood or city? Our country? Our tribe, our ethnic group? Or what the media like to call our ‘community’ when they refer to ‘the LGBT+ community’ for example.

In its 30-month transit of Pisces, Saturn is asking us to check the limits of our compassion. To what extent is it tribal or does it encompass the whole of humanity? This answer lies at the heart of the forthcoming elections in France, the UK and the United States.

The other significant aspect is the conjunction of Mars and Uranus in Taurus. This is exact on 15th July and the combination of these planets can lead to accidental conditions. Mars is fast moving and impatient. In Taurus it can be persistent and determined and maybe doesn’t know when to give up. Uranus is essentially unpredictable and disruptive and in combination with Mars’ impatience, things could get out of control.

Given that fast-moving Mars conjuncts slow-moving Uranus once every 2 years, this conjunction is not that unusual. But having said that, on the 15th July and the time leading up to it, it is definitely a good idea to slow down, avoid making rash decisions while being mindful as to what’s going on around you.

Full Moon in Capricorn – 21 July

Just a moment! The last full moon was also in Capricorn! How is that possible? Well, it’s like this: the last full moon was right at the beginning of Capricorn, this one is right at the end. This happens because the period from full moon to full moon is twenty-nine and a half days and the sun changes sign every 30 days. So, every so often two full moons will squeeze in to the same sign, one at the very beginning, and one at the very end. This is not exactly a blue moon whose definition is somewhat different. The mathematically curious can read more here.

But this full moon is noteworthy in other ways as well. It brings together all the outer planets in a tight-knit array. Pluto at the beginning of Aquarius is less than a degree away from the moon in the last degree of Capricorn and as it’s a full moon, is also opposing the sun. Plus, Neptune in the last degree of Pisces is in an exact angle to the sun at the end of Cancer. Plus, plus, the high energy unpredictable conjunction of Mars and Uranus that is exact on July 15th is in an easy angle to the moon in Capricorn. And to top it all off, Chiron is in a stressful angle to both the sun and moon!

When there’s a complex pattern like this, it’s easiest to read it from the most personal planets outward. First of all, it’s a full moon so consciousness is wide open and the energy cannot be contained. Anyone who has worked in a prison or the emergency department of a hospital will tell you that it can be difficult to control things at the time of the full moon. It’s also a time when there are more jackpot wins in the lounges in Las Vegas as intuition is more finely tuned.

The other personal planet that is picking up a lot of energy from this configuration is Mars. This is the planet of action and as I spoke about accidental conditions at the time of the new moon, the same applies here.

Some less conscious people will find this period difficult to handle. There’s just too much energy buzzing about. Too much connecting us to the higher vibrations of the outer planets. Too much for a lot of people to take. Those of us who are more conscious are asked to play the role of Saturn and take a more responsible approach during the leadup to and the time during the full moon.

Things will have eased considerably by the end of July and then a new cycle begins at the new moon in Leo on 4th August.

Go well

Ben
