Moonletter November 2019

By Ben Belinsky

Welcome to the Moonletter for the forthcoming mooncycle beginning on October 28th 2019 with the new moon in Scorpio, and spanning the full moon in Taurus on November 12th 2019.

New Moon in Scorpio – 28 October

sparkler being lit on fireworks nightScorpio is a water sign and water signs are about feelings and emotions, but Scorpio doesn’t get emotional about things, at least not in an overtly dramatic sense. They feel and feel deeply. But what marks them out is their courage and sheer determination to work through trauma, their own and that of others. (Just watch out for the sting!)

At this new moon, the sun and moon in Scorpio begin a new cycle of emotional engagement. New insights and understandings are there for those who are prepared to look beneath the surface. This begins with looking at one’s own issues and shortcomings and to make the necessary changes before looking at those of others.

Exactly half a sky away is the planet Uranus. In the outer world Uranus is the rebel, the pattern breaker, the revolutionary. It was the first planet to be discovered by means of the telescope. It’s the planet associated with technological developments. It’s also the planet of prediction whose actions cannot be predicted.

In the inner world – the world of personal meaning – Uranus is to do with finding a new perspective on things. This can often mean becoming aware of what is not there, what is missing. ‘But how can I see something that is not there?’ you may ask. That’s where Uranian perception comes in.*

But in whatever situation you find yourself at this new moon, timing is everything. There’s a tense angle between Mars, the planet of action and decision, and Saturn, the brake, the limiter. The secret of timing is to know when to go with Mars and press the accelerator (gas pedal) or when to go with Saturn and hit the brakes. But Mars here is in Libra, and it’s not so much a go-for-it Mars, it’s a Mars that considers all the implications.

So, if you’re sorting out a situation that requires a balanced point of view with the aim of coming to an agreement by finding common ground, then Mars in Libra’s approach could be the right one.

There may be delays. Saturn is in Capricorn, its own sign so the brake pedal is favourite. But it’s not just keeping your foot on the brake and dawdling along in the middle lane, Saturn wants to make sure things are solid and checked and double-checked before it’s prepared to give the go ahead to Mars. That’s what the delays are for.

So, this new moon is a time to check the plans to make sure that everything is solid. That the money’s there for whatever it is you’re going for, that the deal is all above board.

Full Moon in Taurus – 12 November

And then at the full moon it’s all water and earth. Of the earth signs, the moon is in Taurus giving a solid, practical sense, just getting on with things. Saturn and Pluto are in Capricorn, taking responsibility where it needs to be taken and turning down the extra work if it’s too much. With moon in Taurus it’s also a time to treat yourself and others, a bit of luxury won’t come amiss if you can manage it.

While in the water signs, the Sun is in Scorpio conjunct the retrograde Mercury, granting insight and demanding clarity of motivation. And Neptune is in its own sign of Pisces, in an easy angle across the waterlines to the Sun and Mercury. So, Mercury’s perception is more than vague presentiments, it’s more than insight, it’s as if the world of feeling and intention had become transparent like water.

Go well

Mercury Retrograde – 31 October to 20 November

A couple of days after the new moon, the planet Mercury, the ruler of communications goes retrograde and appears to be running backwards against the direction of the other planets until November 20th – just before the sun moves into the sign of Sagittarius. Mercury retrogrades are said to disrupt communications, or at least delay them. It’s time to make sure your data is backed up and you have a Plan B (and maybe a Plan C as well).

When Mercury is in Scorpio, its powers of suss are working cleanly and clearly. It’s a time when dodgy deals and scams can be seen for what they are. You’ve got to be darn clever to fool anyone particularly a Scorpio when Mercury is running retrograde in that sign. There are those who might try however and they’re the fools especially as Scorpio’s ruler, Pluto is in the cool-headed sign of Capricorn backed up by Saturn who’s hanging around just to make sure that the rules are enforced.
