Moonletter September 2019
By Ben Belinsky
Welcome to the Moonletter for the forthcoming mooncycle beginning on August 30th 2019 with the new moon in Virgo, and spanning the full moon in Pisces on September 15th 2019.
New Moon in Virgo – 30 August
Creative energy abounds at the new moon with Mercury, Venus and Mars aligned with the Sun and Moon. Virgo has a reputation for being picky, here this quality is put to good use with intelligent creative decisions. It’s also a good time to find new solutions to practical problems with Mars (slicing through problems) in easy aspect to Uranus (originality). Venus is also helped by a supportive aspect from Saturn putting things to practical use, and maybe even ideas for creative businesses could be planted at this time.
Jupiter is now running direct in its own sign of Sagittarius and with all the optimism, positive energy and confidence that it can muster. But hopefully Jupiter should have learned the lessons of Scorpio and become a bit more canny about who can be trusted, and who deserves your generosity. The balance point is in Gemini and the message is to be clear about who you share ideas with and who you collaborate with.
Full Moon in Pisces – 14 September
This theme is stated again and more strongly at the full moon in Pisces. It is a very sensitive moon with Neptune, the ruler of Pisces just adjacent to the moon, while the Sun in Virgo is backed up by Mars. The energies of Mars and Neptune couldn’t be more different. Mars is physical, active and straightforward. There’s an instinctual almost animal quality to the way it moves.
While Neptune is more to do with the transcendental, the boundless, the spiritual connection.
Where do these energies meet? How do we honour both of them?
One place they come together is in dance! This is where the physical and spiritual cohabit – physical movement expressing the spiritual or to put it the other way round, the spiritual as the motivating force for the physical – what gets it moving.
These two energies also meet in the Taoist principle of Wu Wei, action through inaction, or effortless doing. The ancient Chinese text, the Tao Te Ching describes Wu Wei thus:
The Tao of the sage is to act without striving.
At the full moon the opposition between these two planets is bridged in two ways.
- Follow Jupiter’s sense of freedom and go for your goals and you risk being too open and, as I mentioned before, oversharing, or sharing with the wrong people.
- Follow the discipline of Pluto and Saturn and your determination and careful stewardship of resources will pay off in the long term.
This is a tricky one to get right. Timing is everything. But with the help of Neptune’s vision and Mars’ practicality, success is assured.
