Moonletter September 2021

By Ben Belinsky

Welcome to the Moonletter for the forthcoming mooncycle beginning on 7 September 2021 with the new moon in Virgo, and spanning the full moon in Pisces on 21 September 2021.

New Moon in Virgo – 7 September

Virgo loves the practical details of life – schedules, routines, regular mealtimes – activities like checking, debugging, troubleshooting, cleaning and housekeeping, straightening pictures and dusting behind the radiators. Virgo is absolutely vital to the smooth running of daily life.

But at my back I always hear the uncertainty of Neptune in Pisces, opposing the new moon and Mars, fuddling Virgo and casting a sense of lethargy over action planet Mars. Neptune’s solution can be to look for a quick way to benefit without the need for hard work. Have you noticed the increase in scams recently? This is negative Neptune, the illusionista, the deceiver, the sender of dodgy emails.

At the time of the new moon, Neptune is still the only planet in a water sign. And in fire, for those who have access to it, there is only the centaur Chiron in Aries. Everything else is in earth and air, making it difficult to access either emotion or inspiration. Alternatively, making it too easy to get overwhelmed by feelings or to get sent off at tangents by crazy enthusiasms. But a few days after the new moon, on the 10th September, Venus moves into Scorpio and we again have a personal planet in water, helping us to understand hidden motivations. And on 7th October, Venus moves on into the fire sign of Sagittarius, allowing a bit more positivity and inspiration to come into things.

Personally, I’m looking forward to October when three of the slow-moving major planets turn direct, Pluto in Capricorn on 6th, Saturn and Jupiter both in Aquarius on 11th and 18th respectively. While all the slow movers have been running retrograde (since 20th August), it’s been difficult to have any sense of progress (Jupiter), security (Saturn), innovation (Uranus), clarity (Neptune) and regeneration (Pluto).

Until then, we look for something positive amid all the vagueness and uncertainty of the Neptune influence. And at the time of the new moon, we find Mercury and Saturn in a grand trine in air with the north node in Gemini. A time to look at what ideas and deep assumptions we are carrying around with us. Change your thinking, they say, and you can change your life.

Also, at the time of the new moon there’s the influence of Jupiter in Aquarius in a beautiful trine with Venus in Libra. Relationships and mutual support, treating each other with kindness and understanding. This is our way through this difficult time.

Planets move on, things change, are already changing.

Full Moon in Pisces – 21 September

Full moon just on the Autumn Equinox, barely two days before in fact. The sun at the very end of Virgo, the moon at the very end of Pisces. In agricultural societies once the harvest (Virgo) was weighed (Libra), farmers knew its value and what resources they have to get through the year. Traditionally this was a time of accounting, marking the beginning of a new financial year. Also a time when debts were forgiven.

The sun makes a conjunction with Mars, just over the cusp in Libra while the moon is conjunct retrograde Neptune. At least Neptune is no longer opposing Mars by sign and I expect a freeing up of physical energy and Virgoan practicality.

Mars is a lot stronger, backed up by an easy angle to Saturn which should improve the ability to decide and organise, and to detach and plan rather than feeling mired in Neptunian confusion.

Venus has moved on as well into the water sign of Scorpio allowing hidden motivations to be read and if necessary, exposed. And as Venus is opposed by notoriously unpredictable Uranus, the exposés may well be accidental.

Meanwhile, Mercury is in an easy angle (trine) with Jupiter, and at the same time in a tough angle (square) to Pluto, suggesting lots of serious discussions and negotiations on the world stage and in our own lives. Jupiter in Aquarius will be looking for the big humanitarian picture while retrograde Pluto in Capricorn looking to win the argument at all costs.

Then with the Mercury retrograde in Libra (27 September to 18 October), this suggests a time of rebalancing, and a time of increased awareness of what is fair and what isn’t.

Go well and stay well
