What is a void of course moon period and why should I avoid it?
The moon passes through all the twelve signs of the zodiac every 27 and a bit days – or more exactly 27 days, 7 hours and 47 minutes. That means it goes through each sign every 2.5 days. When it moves through a sign it will make aspects with all the other planets.
Let’s say the moon has made its last aspect with a planet but it hasn’t changed sign yet. It’s like the moon is floating free – it has done its business in the previous sign but it hasn’t yet moved into the next sign. This period is called ‘Void of Course’.
That means that every two or three days, the moon is going to spend some time Void of Course. And that period can be anything from a few minutes to a couple of days. This depends on the planet that is the closest to the end of a sign and how long it will take the moon to enter the next sign. The moon will stop being void of course as soon as it enters the next sign.

These Void of Course periods are important because it’s not a good idea to undertake important activities at these times.
Here’s a quote from an article by Estelle Daniels in the old 1997 Llewellyn’s Moon Sign Book. The article is titled Using the Void-of-Course Moon, and it offers some great ideas and examples. Quoting from this article,
During a void Moon you should not sign a contract, make plans, close a deal, or start a project. Basically anything which you want to have a concrete real-world result should not be started, signed or sealed. If you do, these things will never get off the ground, never materialize, have to be re-done, or have so many problems and setbacks as to be useless anyhow.
On the other hand,
… if you want to drop a bombshell, and yet have fewer repercussions in the long run, during the void-of-course Moon is the time to do it.

Personally, I avoid making important phone calls or sending important messages when the moon is Void of Course. Nor do I upload podcasts or publish articles during these periods. Being strong-willed and impatient, I’ve tried and things either get delayed or come to naught. I’ve now learned to check before I post.
On the other hand, Void of Course moon periods are a good time to tidy up, meditate, do some yoga, declutter or just relax.
